The Truffle Museum of Alba has its roots in the Cortile della Maddalena, in the heart of the city where every autumn the International Alba White Truffle Fair takes place.
The process began in November 2017 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Piedmont Region, the Municipality of Alba, and the Municipality of Montà, where an additional exhibition space is currently being developed. In 2018, a design competition was launched for the two locations. The winning proposal came from a temporary group of professionals composed of architects Antonello Stella, Narciso Piras, and Simone Braschi from Ferrara. After the technical and economic feasibility study, the same team led by Stella was entrusted with the final and executive design phases.
The Museum Path
MUDET is located within the building that surrounds the Cortile della Maddalena, a historic city complex overlooking the main street, Via Vittorio Emanuele II. The space is spread over two levels: on the ground floor, in addition to the reception and ticket office, there will be a shop and a café. The first floor will host the exhibition rooms, guiding visitors through the world of truffles.
The museum covers 530 square meters and showcases the many facets of this extraordinary product of the earth throughout the year: the naturalistic, historical, cultural, and gastronomic aspects of a hypogeous fungus that has gained worldwide recognition. The ten rooms, divided into four thematic areas, include a laboratory space and tell the story of the truffle world through 140 meters of graphic illustrations, multimedia devices, and a collection of over fifty themed objects on display.

At the entrance, the museum will feature a café and a bookshop open to the public, where visitors will also be able to purchase admission tickets.
Opening times and Tickets
The Alba Truffle Museum was inaugurated on October 14, 2023. It is open every day from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with last entry at 6:30 PM.
The museum ticket is valid for the entire day, no reservation is required, and it costs €5. Admission is free for individuals under the age of 15 and for people with disabilities. Tickets can be purchased at the museum bookshop or online at this link: https://visitalba.eu/mudet

The average estimated time to visit the museum is around one hour. However, this is only indicative and depends on the preferences and habits of visitors, who can choose how deeply they wish to explore the museum’s content.
Inside the museum, filming and photography are allowed, but without the use of flash or professional equipment (e.g., tripods). This is to preserve the spaces and exhibits, avoid inconvenience, and ensure a better experience for all visitors.
For visitor safety and to protect the displayed objects, only guide dogs for people with disabilities and animals used for pet therapy are allowed, upon presentation of a medical certificate.
Alba’s historic center offers several parking options that are convenient for museum visitors, although they are not exclusively reserved for the museum.
