PREMIO LATTES GRINZANE 2025

The 2025 Lattes Grinzane Prize will be awarded on Saturday, October 11, at the Teatro Sociale G. Busca in Alba.
The five finalists of the 15th edition are: Mathieu Belezi with Attaccare la terra e il sole (Gramma Feltrinelli, translated by Maria Baiocchi), Jenny Erpenbeck with Kairos (Sellerio, translated by Ada Vigliani), Paul Lynch with Il canto del profeta (66thand2nd, translated by Riccardo Duranti), Alia Trabucco Zerán with Pulita (Sur, translated by Gina Maneri), and Sandro Veronesi with Settembre nero (La nave di Teseo).

The Lattes Grinzane Prize is an international literary award named after Mario Lattes and organized by the Bottari Lattes Foundation. It brings together Italian and international authors and is dedicated to the best works of fiction published in the past year. Since 2017, the award has been part of the cultural program of the International Alba White Truffle Fair.

The Special Lattes Grinzane Prize will be awarded to Ethiopian author Maaza Mengiste. This special recognition is given in each edition to a globally renowned author who has earned widespread critical and public acclaim over time.

The collaboration between the Prize and the Cervo in Blu d’inchiostro literary series will continue in 2025. On Sunday, October 12, the day after the final ceremony, an event will be held at the Clavesana Castle featuring one of the finalists. The event will be hosted by Walter Scavello, English teacher at the Cassini High School in Sanremo. Some students from the Cassini High School—one of the schools that make up the student jury—will also participate, providing musical interludes.

The Bottari Lattes Foundation

he Bottari Lattes Foundation was established in 2009 in Monforte d’Alba (Cuneo) by Caterina Bottari Lattes. Its mission is to promote culture and the arts, and to preserve and expand awareness of Mario Lattes (1923–2001), a multifaceted figure known as a painter, writer, publisher, and cultural promoter.
Mario Lattes was a sharp and nonconformist observer, an internationally minded artist credited with introducing many important foreign painters and authors to Italian audiences. He was also the director of the publishing house founded by his grandfather in 1893, which for many years was a cornerstone of Italian education. Among its notable publications is La biblioteca illustrata, an anthology for middle school students featuring illustrations by Mario Lattes.

The Bottari Lattes Foundation is a non-profit organization. It carries out cultural research and educational initiatives, either independently or in collaboration with other institutions. Its main activities include the international Lattes Grinzane Literary Prize, the biennial Mario Lattes Prize for Translation, art and photography exhibitions, school projects such as Vivolibro, and academic conferences.

The Foundation’s headquarters (Via Marconi 16, Monforte d’Alba) houses the Mario Lattes Library, the Mario Lattes Archive and other documentary collections, and the Mario and Caterina Lattes Art Gallery, which is part of the Piedmontese Cultural Institutes network.

In 2017, the City of Turin named the public gardens in Piazza Maria Teresa after Mario Lattes, in recognition of his cultural contributions to the city. In 2023, on the centenary of his birth, the Foundation celebrated the occasion with a publication, two exhibitions, and several events highlighting the many facets of the Turin-born artist.
